About CALA

The Colchester Adult Learning Association is a non-profit community-based organization, which believes that every adult should have an equal opportunity to an education. Our mission is to assist adults who want to develop skills for lifelong learning so they may participate more fully at home, in the workplace and in the community.

CALA consists of adult learners, tutors, service clubs, community businesses, and government organizations and provides information about literacy skills, basic upgrading, GED'S, and continued learning opportunities within the community.

Program Coordinator's Message

It has been such a pleasure to be part of this wonderful organization for the past five years. I feel like I have achieved a life goal by working for the Colchester Adult Learning Association, a spot where I feel like I have come home. Where work doesn't feel like work, but is a passion.

A special thanks to the people I work with on a daily bases. Bonnie, Colleen, Matt, Thomas, Andrea, and Charlene; special people and a special place for those interested in starting over and second chances.

As a young adult I was once told, I would never get through Academic Math. I was embarrassed, and ashamed. How ever I had someone stand up for me, talk to me and encourage me onward. Because of my Mom, and her encouragement, I did pass Academic Math, worked hard and received my Bachelor in Education.

It's now my job to empathize with and support those who walk through our door here at CALA. To meet and encourage learners, that they too can do anything with determination and hard work. My mom took a stand for me, many years ago and I will take a stand for you.

At CALA we believe no one should be left behind no matter what your race, age, or literacy level. Let CALA be your place to contact and take a second chance at reaching your life goals.

"All learners, young and old, deserve people who believe in them, are supported and who celebrate each individual's success. That's what the Colchester Adult Learning Association is all about."
