English as a Second Language
|

Easing the transition into a new culture, new language and new community.

Teaching Immigrants English (T.I.E.) is an ESL Program designed to assist immigrants with language needs. It is offered in the Truro area through CALA.

Although the focus is on language development, newcomers to the area face many challenges as they adjust to a new culture and settle into their new community. CALA uses local Truro Daily Newspapers to provide a rich resource for boosting language as well as broadening community activities and cultural awareness. Special thanks to the Truro Daily News for their support of this program.

As well as classes, CALA ESL learners enjoy local community activities such as the International Festival, painting at Thrown Together Pottery and visiting the Glooscap Heritage Center.

Moving to a new country involves more than learning a new language.

Everything takes place within a social framework, and that is one of the strengths of the T.I.E. Program. The class is immeasurably enriched by the contributions of immigrants who bring with them knowledge, talent, and enthusiasm to share with fellow participants and our community.
