The Joy of Learning - Fall 2008
Learning to Be

As CALA embarks on the second edition of its Joy of Learning project, we hope this issue encourages you to reflect on the health/literacy connection in our lives. This year's theme, Learning to Be, is adopted from UNESCO's Task Force for the Twenty-First Century.

As the report states, "education should contribute to every person's complete development; mind, body, intelligence, sensitivity, aesthetic appreciation, and spirituality." This indicates there is an important place for the development of those things that make for a full life experience.

As chair of CALA's Board of Directors, I want to acknowledge with thanks the diligence, skill, and enthusiasm of our editor and staff member, Bonnie MacDonald who brought together this publication. We also owe a debt of gratitude to CORDA, ad sponsors, and particularly Anna Parks and Shari Mallory-Shaw for overseeing this project. - Ken Henderson, Chair of CALA
