Learning to Be

As CALA embarks on the second edition of its Joy of Learning project, we hope this issue encourages you to reflect on the health/literacy connection in our lives. This year's theme, Learning to Be, is adopted from UNESCO's Task Force for the Twenty-First Century.

As the report states, "education should contribute to every person's complete development; mind, body, intelligence, sensitivity, aesthetic appreciation, and spirituality." This indicates there is an important place for the development of those things that make for a full life experience.

As chair of CALA's Board of Directors, I want to acknowledge with thanks the diligence, skill, and enthusiasm of our editor and staff member, Bonnie MacDonald who brought together this publication. We also owe a debt of gratitude to CORDA, ad sponsors, and particularly Anna Parks and Shari Mallory-Shaw for overseeing this project. - Ken Henderson, Chair of CALA

We at CALA are pleased to present our first educational resource guide to the over 22,000 homes in Colchester County for the fall 2007. As we grow and continue our quest of lifelong learning, we invite you to reach out to seize the community resources all around you, after all, they are there for you!

Remember, learning is not a finite happening. All the best finding your "Joy of Learning".

Bonnie MacDonald, Project Manager/Editor
